The Divorce Mediation Center of Suffolk was founded in Februrary 1998 by Alan L. Finkel, a matrimonial attorney whose separate law practice is located in Suffolk County.

Mr. Finkel believes that mediation is a viable alternative for couples who wish to minimize the hurt and the anger that often accompanies a divorce. Trained in family and divorce mediation, he continues to actively practice matrimonial litigation in the Courts of Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

Mr. Finkel holds a J.D. Degree from Touro College School of Law, obtained in 1984. He is admitted to the New York State Bar, and the Connecticut State Bar. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1975, and obtained a Masters in Education in 1976.

Mr. Finkel has been practicing law since 1985, and currently concentrates his practice in the areas of matrimonial and family law. He practiced in Manhattan from 1985 to 1990, where he was an associate, then a partner in the law firm of Argiriou & Finkel. After handling the litigation for the the law firm of Smith, Carroad, Levy & Glatter from 1987 through 1990, Mr. Finkel was made a partner in that firm in 1990, and after Mr. Glatter's departure, the firm's name was changed to Smith, Carroad, Levy & Finkel.

On February 1, 2009, he formed Bianco, Byrnes & Finkel, LLP, where he is the Senior Partner.  A majority of Bianco, Byrnes & Finkel’s law  practice is devoted to Family and Matrimonial law, under his direction.
